Your HIP credential is an Ed25519 cryptographic key pair generated entirely in your browser. The private key never leaves your device — HIP servers never see it. When you attest a file, your browser signs the content hash with your private key, creating a tamper-proof proof of authorship.
Tiered trust levels. Tier 1 uses government ID with liveness detection — one credential per human, enforced by dedup. Tier 2 uses peer vouching from a Tier 1 holder. Tier 3 proves biometric presence (a live human was present) — limited to 50 attestations with a trust index ceiling of 60.
Your credential is stored per-site in this browser's localStorage. If you use multiple HIP sites, sync your credential using the Account tab. If you clear browser data or switch devices, you'll need your backup file to restore it.
Trust Index is computed server-side from your credential tier, account age, attestation volume, and consistency (0–1000 scale). Higher tiers start with more weight. Tier 3 is capped at 60.
